Whether you feel more in control of your own life course or believe that outside forces (such as fate or other unmanageable powers) are more in command of your destiny influences which environments will help you thrive. Be honest with yourself: compared to other people you know, are you more likely to trust your future to the goddess Fate or your own behaviors and actions?
Some objects and places have more curves (they’re called “curvilinear”) and some have more straight lines (these are “rectilinear”). Your personality influences whether you are more likely to want to surround yourself with more curves or straight lines – but no successful design is all curvy or all straight – we’re talking relatively here. If you are more apt to accept Fate, you like things and places to be more curvilinear; if you’re more apt to battle Fate, you welcome the rectilinear.
If you are more apt to take your future into your own hands, you want a physical environment that lets you do just that. You prefer spaces that you can easily reconfigure to meet your needs at the moment. Furniture on wheels, furniture that can serve several different purposes (desk or craft table, study couch or guest bed), and furniture that is not built-in fits your needs. If you have more trust in Fate, firmly located furniture with a clearly defined roles better seems best.
