Ground floor vs first floor

May I point out that the "German" way of naming floors is not only German but is in common use in other European countries. In France, parterre becomes rez-de-chaussée. Premier étage is the second floor from an North American perspective. In Russia, it is "nizny etaj", ie. the lower floor.
