The Last New Year's Resolution You'll Ever Need to Make

Why put off until January what you can do today?

I was never fully able to get my head around the idea of New Year's resolutions and I wasn't sure why. What I knew was that I never had any and often found myself at a loss awkwardly trying to explain why not when people asked. Finally, one day I realized that it was a mere philosophical difference that I had with the tradition of starting anew at the beginning of each year, especially when I saw so many resolutions tend to repeat themselves tirelessly for decades. In the end, I suppose I don't understand having a goal or wanting to change something and waiting until January 1st to make it happen.

resolutions, planning, life goals
Instead, wouldn't it be great if all resolutions were to never wait until resolution time again?  Think of all the progress, the goals achieved, the to-do's checked off the never-ending list. We'd be a workforce and a world made up of people who know how to get things done... and do. No more stop-starts. No more lost time. No more missed opportunities. No more lethargy, procrastination, and getting nowhere. And most of all, no more meeting ourselves at the same place and same time next year.

So, this year, why not plan not to wait to act? Resolve each year hereafter that you will renew your commitment to do what you want or need to do when you want or need to do it.  From this point forward, it's the only resolution you'll ever need to make.
