NLD is a little known, often misunderstood umbrella group of disorders. Not every person with NLD has every facet of the disorders. Yet people tend to talk in generalities, as if each person with NLD suffers from the exact same problems in exactly the same way. I almost feel compelled to change my life story so it fits what people think of as NLD more. But I won't. Read More

What a wonderful article! So
What a wonderful article! So well written, yes, but so much more than that!
It's refreshing for someone who has a disorder to just 'say it like it is' without sounding like 'poor me.'
Great post.
Thanks Nathalie!
I can't feel sorry for myself when so many people in this country are becoming homeless through no fault of their own. It's a matter of perspective.
Thanks Nathalie!
I was a bit anxious about this post but am very glad I wrote and posted it!
NLD is invisible and differs
NLD is invisible and differs slightly or a lot in each person who has it.
What a profound statement. IMO, that should be on page one of the NLD manual.
Pia, are are contributing a lot to understanding NLD. You help people every single day.
The NLD manual ha!
Thanks J.S. So little is known about NLD that anything contributes.
Great post Pia!
Really, really liked this post-best ever. NLD is about how it is expressed individually- the disease is in the nuances. It is not like shingles and treated the same for all. The important thing about getting diagnosed properly is for the individual to achieve a clearer focus on themselves. However, I would not suggest going to vocational rehab in SC. Or mental health in SC. They are not into nuances. I know- an evening to night to morning martini session would not be sufficient to cover all the stories I have about them. So, if one is seeking diagnosis and help it is best to check out the support groups to get recommendations based on individual experiences.

Thanks for letting me know about this. It seems to be so much more than 'non-verbal'. I tell ya', there's so much we don't know about each other and way too much 'judgement'!
It's amazing to me
That a disorder that's on its face is defined primarily by what it's not is rife with such generalities.
This was an excellent post, Pia. I applaud any time someone so eloquently describes how the real world is more complex than the one portrayed by the people who feel the need to give broad advice.
It's never a good idea,
It's never a good idea, introducing yourself to a diagnosis with a person standing there.
