Will Multi-tasking Make You a Scatterbrain?

Tell me why multi-tasking is a good ability. While you are at it, try to convince me that it has no deleterious effect on ability to focus, sustain attention, and think. Read More

Multitasking

I agree. When I multitask, I try to convince myself that I'm being very productive. When I look closely at my work, I find I'm just accomplishing a lot, but doing a poor job at each thing. Much quantity, little quality. Good to have this validated by data.

Ok this is an interesting

Ok this is an interesting article and I don't want to come off as being "smart" but if we wanna get all technical multitasking can be as simple as walking and chewing gum at the same time or walking and talking at the same, talking on the phone while driving is like navigating a hallway filled with students while talking to a friend.

I can understand the

I can understand the frustration that cell phones cause in the classroom, but I think that problem is only a problem because it's possible the internet has made school obsolete (except the courses you take when you want to become a brain surgeon or rocket scientist). :) Why torture children for years in a glorified babysitter jail if anything and everything we need and want to learn is a click away? I learned more about the world from the internet (and books of my own choosing) than school ever taught me. If this interests anyone, search "unschooling".

BTW, great article. Forgive me, I went on a bit of a tangent only slightly related to the subject. This is probably because I am scatterbrained!

Got Kids?

If you have children, you certainly don't need me to tell you why multitasking is a good ability!

citations

This is exactly the reason citations and other nonsense jumbled into an otherwise well written document irritate me. Stay on task! Nobody cares where you got the info from or what the sources other job is. EX. "Peanut butter and Jelly make a great combination on a sandwich between two pieces of bread." So says Mr. Lunch Money Saver PPhD.S.B.Ds.M who is currently conducting research at the Chewy and Delicious Factory in Pack a Lunch, USA.

All that for so little information gain. Can we stop it with the unnecessary dialog, already?
