No Michele, There is No Santa Claus

During this past weekend's (July 17-20) State Farm Classic LPGA Tournament, Michele Wie was disqualified for violating one of golf's inane rules governing when and where the players sign their scorecards. Upon finding out she had been disqualified, Sue Witters, the LPGA's director of tournament competition commented that "She (Wie) was like a little kid after you tell them there's no Santa Claus."

dr delaney's view on michele wie's dq was right on line. you want to play with the big dogs , then play with their rules. there's no crying in golf.with all the nike money she gets maybe she can hire someone to teach her the rules

confusion

I can see why Wie might be royally put off by an inane rule interfering with her golf game. It seems other people in the golf franchise constantly waver on what is truly important. If people are willing to give her millions in endorsements simply for being attractive and up-holding an image, than why are they not willing to let a small scorecard mishap slide so she can finsih out an actual game? If integrity and clear-cut rules are so important why aren't these things being rewarded instead of image? Perhaps she was just frustrated with such hippocracy. Perhaps she actually wants to play the game and play it well and was very disappointed in her own mistake to the point of tears. Perhaps she wants to be taken seriously but who is going to turn down millions in endorsements to make a point? That may be asking a bit much of a young girl thrust into the limelite while still trying to develop her blossoming talent. To me it reeks of typical Hollywood promotion. Lets give underage kids a free pass to nightclubs but than publicy chastise them when they take a sip of alcohol.
