When very serious things are happening in Iraq, Afganistan, Sudan, Zimbabwe and the American economy is in free-fall, more than a few words on the Spitzer situation seem to just feed into the eternal distraction from what matters. Still, for us, his only real crime is his hypocrisy. Read More

And the conclusion is...
It seems like there is something missing in this article. Who exactly wants the price of sexual access to be maintained at higher than free market levels? The obvious suspects are wives, would-be wives, and pimps. Strange bedfellows for sure. Who knew they had so much political clout?
Prostitution
I believe prostitution is illegal because it bypasses courtship and allows men easy access to sex, especially men of low status. In the desert of Nevada, brothels exist as legal businesses, nothing is their to oppose them.
because
slavery is illegal, and prostitution is short-term slavery, plain and simple. Few if any "choose" to become prostitutes, they are forced into it by the men (or those more powerful) in their lives, human trafficking, drug or alcohol addiction, or by absolute destitution (mostly to provide food or shelter for their children). If it is a profession, it is a profession of the strong holding control over those who are weak. That is why it is and should be illegal.
Prostitution is voluntary in
Prostitution is voluntary in much of the world because you can earn more money for less work than in other professions. This is as true in the U.S. as in other places.
It is utter nonsense and likely based on lack of experience in the real world to believe otherwise. Yes, some people are forced into working but that is the minority just as some people are forced into supporting their children but that is also the minority.
It is kept illegal to support the value of sex with "regular" women.
Women don't want men to have access to sex at a reasonable cost and prostitution poses a threat to their market value.
Most (but far from all) women prefer to sell their bodies under the guise of romance to gullible men at high prices. Neither the men or the women can admit this because the truth is too harsh to face.
