Let's agree that men and women are put together differently. Let's also agree that this can cause them to think, feel and behave in opposite ways. If you choose to believe that "Equal" means "Same As" then stop right here and go watch Oprah. What follows will only upset you.
For example, men are intrigued by the conquest of others while women are drawn to the nurturing of others. Of course this doesn't always apply but it does explain why there are girl flicks and guy flicks. And speaking of flicks, men are usually a whole lot more excited by XXX videos than women are because men are primarily visually oriented. Women use all their senses in more or less equal proportion so touch along with what they hear, smell and taste are important. If a guy uses the wrong cologne, forget it. Ditto with chat. Men simply want just the facts while women want a whole story so unless you're a guy with a gift for gab you may not score. And while men can separate emotion from a situation, women filter all they see and do through their feelings. A guy in court who's guilty as hell but has a sad enough tale of woe can beat the rap if the jury is made up mostly of women. Remember the brothers who almost got off because, after shot-gunning their parents, they were orphans?
To make points with the opposite sex, it makes sense to come off as one who admires men for their achievements or, conversely, appreciates women for their skill in both developing and maintaining relationships. And because the average male has twenty times the amount of testosterone coursing through his bloodstream, he's going to be more interested in getting a thing done than he will be in how it's done. Women, who produce far more of the "cuddle hormone" oxytocin, concentrate at least as much on technique as they do on results. So while a man separates and holds a narrow view, a woman will combine and look at the big picture. This is also why men have to do one thing at a time while women tend to multitask. A guy watching TV is watching TV. A woman in front of the tube will see nothing wrong with talking to a friend and balancing a checkbook at the same time.
Once in bed, just when a male might think (and a female might feel) that the genders have finally come together in the same groove, those same nagging differences come to the fore. A man goes for parts while a woman expects a full body experience. And while sexy words can work for both, the gal will want a heavy helping of romantic ones thrown in as well. Then too, after the deed is done, there's one additional problem. Males are naturally bent on spreading their seed. In fact, it's genetically programmed into their seed! Love and sex are not at all synonymous in their minds and a chance to score is a chance not to be missed. The main squeeze, if she finds out, will find this proclivity off putting and ask (or far more likely scream) something like "Do you love her?" This is bound to cause considerable confusion in the mind of her man. What's love got to do with it? So for men it will eventually boil down to "She doesn't understand me" while for women it's more like "They're all cheating pigs!"
Look At It This Way
So what's the bottom line on this. Pure and simple, men and women have been specialized over countless generations for different tasks. Their bodies and minds have evolved so as to complement the opposite sex in the business of life. You do this, I do that and together we survive. This, I know, is not politically correct in the 21st Century with the police-person and the fire-person and even the post-person but old habits are hard to break. And for good reason! It's always possible that some global upheaval will reduce civilization to a bare bones existence with men once again hunting for food and women once again cooking it up. Cell phones, laptops and gender discrimination suits won't be much good if that happens so maybe it's better to celebrate rather than condemn the differences. You never know.
