The New York Times just posted a wonderful article by Tara Parker-Pope, “In a married world, singles struggle for attention.” No myths or singles-bashing here! Read More

Good to see they describe singles positively
Could this be a change in the national attitude towards singles? Or am I jumping the gun here?
Just read it....
Wow. What a step forward. And the comments (60+) were overwhelmingly in agreement with the tone of the article. I hope that The Times and other news outlets take notice. Like Alan, I dare to hope that this is a sign that the national attitude is changing.
Congratulations, Bella. You deserve the lions' share of the credit as one of the few out there doing the research and keeping the torch burning.
Great article!
So wonderful to see this positive article about singles. I enjoyed how it had a positive tone and did not feel like it was trying to pit married people and single people against each other.
It's not a "married world"
The one thing I disagree with is the headline. We do not live in a "married world." We live in a heterogeneous world. The notion that we live in a "married world" is a false stereotype perpetuated only by those who refuse to acknowledge the realities of today. Some of us choose and love being single. I would also like to see some reference to overpopulation. It's unbelievable that anyone today would accuse those who choose not to have kids as being "selfish." Our planet cannot support having all 7 billion people reproduce! Ten to twelve billion people is the maximum carrying capacity of the planet, and that is possible at only a much lower standard of living than that of the current American middle class (or what's left of it). Also, so many comments are about health care; one writer aptly noted that a single payer system would resolve most problems related to health care and health insurance.
