From years of hearing single people's stories about what they like and don't like about how other people treat them, one thing is clear - it can be hazardous to presume to know what any particular person wants. Here are some gestures I've really appreciated.

Positive singles treatment
One of the healthiest relationships I ever found myself a part of was with a guy who prefered single women (read: "smart, independent women who know what they want"). He loved riding his motorcycle and wanted someone to ride with. "A woman that would rather drive her own bike than cling to the back of mine." He stressed the importance of this woman having her own identity and not needing him to complete her in any way. It was liberating, being part of a couple, yet so wholly unto myself. Not a lot of people, entering into a serious, monogamous, heterosexual relationship would think the same way, or appreciate that line of thinking in a partner. It was very positive singles treatment!
