Social Treatment of Mental Illness

Does it take a village to care for the mentally ill? Read More

Excellent Idea

As someone who is medicated for major depression, I can see the wisdom is taking it slow, and trying to find a non-drug approach to someones discomfort. But in the interest of full disclosure, being quirky or eccentric does not require medication so much as feeling absolutely miserable and out of control does. And I would hesitate to advise anyone to "go off" their meds just to see what happens. It can be disasterous.

Advice?

Yes, of course. I am not advising anyone to do anything. That would require considerable knowledge of the particular case, and a license.
My purpose is to stimulate discussion and debate in an area that is little understood.

Who judges who

Just because he did better off the drug doesn't mean he got better. What if he was bipolar and should of been on lithium? Maybe your friend is delusional and mentally ill.

Sincerely,David
