Well done

the most straightforward description of narrative therapy I've come across (and I look for these things). There is for some, a wider dimension to narrative that explains in part its outsider status and concomitant rise of corrective/rational therapeutic approaches: Knowing and telling your story is a political act, or, as James Phelan put it, “Narrative is not just story, but also action, the telling of a story by someone to someone on some occasion for some purpose.”

So while the early stages of narrative therapy are necessarily "all about me," becoming an authority on one's own experience has tremendous ripple effects in the social fray. Which I guess is what makes narrative therapy such a threat to our CBT overlords.

thanks!

I appreciate your thoughtful comments. I might quote you. It is helpful to hear about James Phelan. I will read more about him.
