Actually, ask...what can I do?

Actually, the thing to do is to ask, "What can I do to help?"

You may actually get a surprising answer. Maybe your husband or wife needs you to sit at the computer for a few days, sending off resumes that never get responded to, so that you can actually feel what he or she is feeling.

However, don't ask unless you're ready to say yes to pretty much anything you hear.
