Bullshit?

I appreciated Dr. Meichenbaum's frank and astute comments. But when he calls bullshit, no BULLSHIT, on panaceas in psychotherapy I would like to know of whom he speaks. Let's get this party started, names please.

Question # 5- It is

Question # 5- It is absolutely refreshing to hear a therapist say "not to get caught up in the hype"

Sometimes one has to step out of the box for each individual to see progression on both ends.

FAQ

Nice article. I admire the writers comments. He shows question s to determine the goal of each individual.

How does that make you feel...

A message to all the therapists out there. When you ask your clients the infamous "how does that make you feel?", please keep in mind that not everybody can give a straight answer to that question. If they can't, take the Beatles approach and "Let It Be". If you keep pressuring them for an answer, or worse, tell them: "I don't think that's how you felt; how did you *really* feel?", they'll give you any old answer they think you'll like just to get you off their back. I've seen a few shrinks, and I did that more times than I care to count. Now, carry on.

CBT

CBT therapists will not ask "how does that make you feel" because they are primarily interested in cognition- 'thoughts'. They most likely ask rather "what thoughts are you thinking right now. Which is a bummer when you have no thoughts in your head but are trying to explore and make sense of what it is you are feeling.
