What Price Would You Pay For Love?

This is Part 3 in a three-part series on self-identity and love.

Love and romance go hand in hand in our culture. The advertising industry has capitalized on people's desire to find their soul mate and to live happily ever after.

Many people use internet dating services to search for the partner of their dreams. The financial cost of these services are nominal. But how much is too much? Would you pay ten thousand dollars to find love? Leah and her present husband each paid ten thousand dollars to a matchmaker in order to find each other. Ten thousand dollars seems like a lot of money but over twenty-four years of marriage (the average length) that would come out to thirty-four dollars and seventy two cents a month. In monthly installments it doesn't seem so extreme. Especially, if it means you will have met the man or woman of your dreams.

The economics of love is driven by desirability and demand. Unfortunately, the older a woman gets, the more difficult it can be to find love. The same isn't true for our older male counterparts. But what is new about that? Women generally pay the price.
