Five percent of 30.5 inches is only 1.5 inches. Then why are most high heels 3 inches? Also, it doesn't quite explain why women have so many pairs of shoes, as you note.

On a side note, the formatting of your post isn't very good for reading. It's not easy to see the breaks between paragraphs, so it just looks like a single big one. The website probably screwed it up somehow.
