On the Bright Side, Again

I'm always amazed at how resistant depressed patients are to trying bright light therapy. The treatment may help; and even when it doesn't, people who try it tend to like it. Read More

The art of aesthete

I also believe collecting pleasing object and living among them is something that might momentarily shift depression. If your surrounded by junk you'll probably feel more worthless. After all people go on vacation to see beautiful things. Shouldn't you look forward to returning home to your beautiful surroundings? If the anti-semite Degas could muster a half decent aesthetic, then anyone can.- Your on vacation contacting relatives,hmmm..sounds like a book!?!?!

Where did my s go ?

Should be a ''s'' on the word (object)- Have a fireplace in the winter to help alter mood also. Keeps eyes ,ears and nose busy.

Try calling it something fancy

Well, I think it might be in part because of how simple it is. Sure, it's depression, a common disorder effecting many people. But it's also that thing that makes every day a little more unbearable, makes other people seem more scornful, makes every movement slow and stupid, like moving through treacle.
But wait?! Bright lights can help? All this I'm going through might be treatable with good old fashioned sunshine?!
I think it seems almost insulting to someone suffering depression that something as simple as light can make it better. It makes the problem seem more trivial, makes the patient's value seem a little thinner. Being depressed also means being melodramatic- not to be insulting, but it's how I always felt. And being told by your doctor or therapist, feels like a child being told "some sunshine is good for you" by their parents.

Fromm and Elle

I received THE ART OF LOVING in the mail today in hard cover. A nice addition to my Kramer collection. Much enjoyed your introduction.- Elle you obviously have yet to read Kramer. If your having trouble concentrating i suggest getting AGAINST DEPRESSION on CD (though it is abridged which is a felony) If not, start from the first book and proceed. Sincerely,DAVID
