Older parents and bipolar children

A very interesting article, but there may be another explanation for the association between older parents and bipolar offspring...

Could the higher incidence of bipolar children in older parents mean that children of older parents are more likely to be diagnosed or identified as bipolar due to socioeconomic factors (i.e., the financial and educational advantages associated with older parents)? In other words, how do we know that the greater prevalence/incidence reflects the greater frequency of the occurrence of genetically BP children versus the greater likelihood of BP diagnosis?
