Songs of Hope and Change...

Hi Dad,

My friend Andrew Marantz made this site -- it has a funny song he wrote about Obama:

Glad to hear the weather is nice at home. Here its a bit muggy.

Black

A few years ago, the New York Times (I think) printed a story about astronomy, in which their automatic political correctness checker had changed the phrase "black hole" to "African American hole." Somehow, to me, that sums it up.

Also, while we're on the subject, why is Obama considered more black than white? Racially, he's 50/50. Culturally, he's white (raised in a white family, educated in predominantly white schools in predominantly white areas, etc.). Is a zebra a black horse? Are dalmatians black? It's all very confusing. I'm considered white, although my cultural ancestors were sold as slaves in the West Indies (80,000 Irish sold in the same slave markets). Doesn't make sense.

Peter,

I came across your blog while wasting my time surfing various topics. So I just thought I would let you know there are more Obama supporters out here among your old friends. I share your thoughts about having a "black man" in the White House and all that will symbolize about us as a country and what it would communicate to the world. As the campaign has gone on my enthusiasm has only grown; particularly this week with his speech on race. This is an exceptional person coming along when we need such a leader. We will now see if the country is wise enough to take advantage of his talents.
