I have twins who are teenagers, and could not be more different than each other. At parent teacher conferences (they have many of the same teachers), we like to comment that we are a great illustration for the nature / nurture debate.
I used to think environment was everything. Now, I focus more on making space for all of my children to be who they are, and guide them on their way.
While a lot of things can't be changed and are tied to genetics, something I've noticed a LOT of psychologists don't like and try to ignore, some changes can be made, at least I have.
I used to be shy and introverted. I'm still relatively introverted and quite happy with it 80% of the time, but that other 20% I found it rather "unfun". I was able to overcome that to the point that when I try to tell people I was shy I get that "yea right" look.
