How Simple Do You Have to Be For the American People?

No doubt, I am not the only American bewildered by the contradictory responses to President Obama's State if the Union address. Sounded OK to me, but what did others think?

Charles Blow, in The New York Times on Saturday, noted that the President is "stuck on studious." He went over the heads of most Americans: "People want clear goals, clearly defined and clearly (and concisely) conveyed. They're suspicious of complexity."

Hi Dr. Eisold

I love your blog, but I have to agree with Charles Blow
on this one. Now that America has become a post-literate
society, it is only very simple vocabulary and simple solutions
that most of our citizens will be able to understand and
appreciate.

To survive, Democracy needs an educated and informed
citizenry along with a strong middle class. I don't
think things look too good for our future.

You may be right. I think it too soon, but I'd rather err on the side of hope. I admire Obama's ability to communicate complex issues.
