These are the lyrics to an Alanis Morrisette song, "Princes Familiar". It's a really beautiful song. Just writing the lyrics doesn't do it justice.

It's taken me quite a long time to recover from my father's unintentional neglect..

You have articulated your feelings quite well and it sounds to me like you are attracted to entirely different men now. When you were young, like most girls, you went for the most alpha or dominant man of the group. Now as you have reached a greater stage in your life, you are attracted to the caring men who support you. Interesting how that works...
