I recommend the 2009 NOVA documentary ‘What are dreams?' http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/nova/body/what-are-dreams.html It came out in November of 2009 but the science still holds up. Like most other science documentaries it interviews some of the leading experts in the field and recounts some cutting edge findings. Despite it airing two years ago the science is still accurate. Several topics are covered such as the role of dreams in memory processing and the role of dreams in mood disorders. I am interviewed at a couple of points in the show and some recent experiments of mine on REM sleep and mood functions are recounted.
