Perfectionists? Are You Sure?
I think people who think they are perfectionists need to re-think and re-study if they are really perfectionists. Sometimes one with OCD can easily be mistaken for being a perfectionist. The two are so similar that unless one seriously think it through, one might just got the two muddled up.

Sorry, but I have to disagree: I would fall under the first category, of self-oriented perfectionist, and the standards I usually hold myself against are usually much higher than those others hold of me. I'll picture creating something amazing, and fall so short from what I envisioned that it crushes and discourages me. I therefore suffer frequently from the negative symptoms associated with socially-prescribed perfectionists listed here. What those around me think of my work hold little weight. In fact, I believe that were I to be the third type, I would be much happier and self-confident. I think it's mostly just a matter of how high your bar is: if, as a socially-prescribed perfectionist, the prescribed 'bar' is at a daunting height, you suffer from all the usual negative symptoms. If it's at a height you can confidently leap over, then you can reap the more positive benefits of perfectionism.
