Depression can even be useful as an indicator or respite

Your perspective on dealing with depression as something to be "deconstructed and curtailed" is very helpful and positive. It isn't automatically a "disorder" to be medicated away. Dr. Eric Maisel writes about the vulnerability of creative people to depression, and their need for making meaning in their life and work to counteract existential drought or depression.

Psychologist Stephen Diamond (PT blog: Evil Deeds) commented in our recent interview that "depression can also be seen as a forced period of introversion in artists" - On Anger and Creativity.
