This blog is about habits. I have sung the praises of good habits and I will continue to do so.
But, here's the thing. Sometimes, and just sometimes mind you, it's important to step out of your routine. There are three great reasons to do this:
1. Routines can become, let's face it, boring from time to time. By stepping out of your routine, you avoid boredom. And that's a good thing.
2. Maybe you'll see things from a different perspective. That would be good too.
3. You will find yourself missing your routine and, when you return to it, you'll appreciate it. And that's a good thing too!
Remember, when you step out of routine, it doesn't have to be a radical change. If you're reading every evening, you don't have to start sunset bungee jumping. But, what about going to a film? Maybe a film of a book that you read recently?
We need our routines. We need to be creatures of habit. But, if we're going to stay committed creatures of habit, and value our habits, it's important to contrast them with something out of the ordinary every once in a while. And, heck, you might even have some fun!
