Our mothers gifted us with life. Many of them also gifted us with caring for us, nurturing our spirits and encouraging our best lives. But their job was to make sure we got here safely, and if they did that they accomplished their task. Once we express our gratitude to our biological mothers for bringing us here we can go beyond that very conventional definition of motherhood to something broader that applies to all of us.
Because the truth is that many children grow up raised by grandparents, cared for by family members, nurtured by teachers or therapists, mentored by elders and guided to grow into their greatness by someone outside their biological circle. These people also mothered children’s dreams and oftentimes make all the difference.
So in celebrating mothers and all they do I want to include those people who are continuously mothering our children’s dreams too.
