Perry writes about an experience much more profound that the experience in Julie & Julia: reading all of Proust, with his wide-ranging themes, is far more enriching than cooking all of Julia Child.

Having recently read The Sportswriter, in which Richard Ford attempts a sort of 1985 suburban Proust voice, drives home how great Proust really was: It's damned hard to do!

Plus you don't gain weight

Reading Proust is enriching but not fattening. We did try out the Madeleines at Trader Joe's when we began, but luckily didn't find them addictive.
