People Who Need People... Get Writer's Block

You're probably curious as to what this new blog, called "Creating in Flow," might offer you that's insightful or inspiring about the art and science of creative expression. Fair enough. But until I finish the first draft, I'm not going to focus on my audience. To find out why, read on. Read More

Do ever worry and make the mistake of fearing what your audience think?

Misplaced fears

I - and other writers - do sometimes forget to forget the audience and get tangled up in creativity-stifling fears. It's not that the audience doesn't matter. Think of them intensively, especially if you want to be sure you've been clear enough. But not until you have a first draft down. Also, there are fears - and there are BIG fears. I'll do a post on fear at some point. You may be worrying about things that don't matter. When you put yourself out there in writing, it's impossible for everyone in your actual audience to like you or your work equally.

Writing

I agree with this article. I am a writer myself for a University newspaper, and I do find that my anxiety from writing comes from worrying about what others think.

Good piece!

I want to know more tips on creativity.

Tips will flow

Tips on how to be more creative will definitely be coming up. I suggest the RSS feed so you won't miss any posts. I keep all my RSS feeds on my Google toolbar and when I "need" a distraction, I check them all and see what's new and intriguing. (I will write later about when a distraction is not really a distraction, but an aid to creativity.)

Welcome Susan

Dear Susan,

I am very pleased that you have been added to the list of creativity bloggers.

I look forward to reading your posts.

Dr. Perry - Great first

Dr. Perry - Great first blog. The subject of audience and their proper place in the creative process is one my friends and I have discussed at length. Nice to see it addressed here.

Looking forward to the next entry, and for many yet to come.

Weight Loss FLOW ...

Hi Susan, I am so excited to find your blog. I am a fan of FLOW. I utilized FLOW to permanently remove over 50 pounds (if you lose it; you will find it). I got 'lost' in flow through meditation, creating visual art, singing (admittedly off key).

Novel use of flow

What an intriguing fringe benefit of entering a flow state. Gotta try it myself. Thanks for sharing.
