When faced with difficult people, I know they are wanting empathy, to be heard and to find someone to lean on, but it can lead to being pushed over. I am wiser, stronger, but my life is busy and is my own. I tell them this:

The only advice I can offer you is your own silence.
I hope you are listening.

Then I physically walk away and do my stuff.
