If you are an American Idol fan, you are familiar with the talented Kara DioGuardi, one of the judges. Last night, she was moved to tears by one of the contestant's performances.
Kara recently spoke about her battle with an eating disorder. Specifically, she discussed her struggle with Binge Eating Disorder, which is generally characterized by overeating eating large amounts of food, feeling out of control while doing so and using food to deal with emotions instead of hunger. ceasar salad. again!
to protect identity i will call my friend miriam. miriam and i have been friends for 12 years. we socialize as couples and we have our girl nights too. our families have vacationed together. miriam is very active, works full time, teaches, cares for her family and aging parents. in all of the time we have spent together, she eats only ceasar salad. she takes great pride in arranging a night out at a great restaurant and as the meal decisions are mulled over and the order taken, she eeks her order of ceasar salad once again. initially, our friends would respond with 'oh, miriam, you are so good' [for not eating i guess?]. i never respond to her repeated ceaser salad order. i don't comment in any form. 'miriam' is athletically built, she has a petit frame, muscular and defined from running and working out, but comepletely healthy in appearance. we are just off a girls weekend in nyc. more ceasar salad at dinner but that was it. i believe she is a closet eater but i feel as though this person with who i share all of our lifes stories is somehow very dishonest and manipulative with her eating habits. i feel she wants attention and praise for not eating, when thankfully, she clearly eats but she even hides eating from her husband and three sons. they will often remark and praise her for not having meals. any thoughts?
