Men and the friends they trust

Men friends that you trust.

A previous post discussed the first of the four categories of friends described in Buddy System - the just friend, that is some one who is an acquaintance. Another level of friend is the trust friend (the other two are must and rust friends).

What is a trust friend? From the interviews, I found that the trust friend is someone who you know well, like a great deal, and trust with your emotions and thoughts. He gives you good feedback when you see him. You might see him on occasion by pre-arrangement or you might run into him at a party, at work, or at the gym. You like talking to him and might think that if you had more space in your life or if he had more space in his, you could become very close (must) friends. But that is not the case either because you both do not have time, are traveling in different circles, or have vastly different interests.

Hopefully, you have a wide circle of trust friends - guys who you like and with whom you feel comfortable. IF you decide to try and move a guy into being a closer friend, that entails a little bit of courting in a certain sense. You will have to reach out to him in a way that feels comfortable to you (and him) - this varies greatly from person to person, culture to culture, and age to age. Do you want to invite him to a sports or a church event? A party at your house? A dinner or a movie with your significant other and his? Men usually estabish shoulder-to-shoulder friendships whereas women establish face-t-face ones. Keeping this in mind, consider that an activity may be the best thing to suggest to a guy you want to cultivate as a closer friend. Find some way of reaching out that appeals to you and see if the friendship can grow into even a closer friendship.
