David Servan-Schrieber was 31 when his world imploded. Ambitious and arrogant, he was a rising star in neuropsychiatry. When a volunteer for a brain scan experiment didn’t show up, he slid into the scanner himself—and discovered a malignant tumor nestled deep in his brain. After surgery and chemotherapy, he continued his life as before, eating a diet high in red meat and sugar, exercising little, and abandoning an earlier interest in meditation. When the tumor returned, he used his medical training to investigate how best to prevent cancer. The result was remission—and a bestselling book called Anticancer. Read More

Cancer Prevention
Dr. Servan-Schreiber:
I read with great interest the article posted in the L.A. times 4/20/09. I have been a associated with an international corporation founded by a women immunologist from BYU. Dr. Jau Fei-Chen founded E.Excel International over 20 years ago. Looking for a cure for cancer, she found that plant food can heal the body if you nourish the body with PROPER nutrition.
I have great testimonies from diabetes, arthritist, to cancer. Dr. Chen wrote several books, one entitled "Health and Longevity" in which she discusses plant food and what each plant is good for your body. The food is manufactured in convenient sterialized "fast food" packaging. If you want more info, emal me!
Coping with cancer
I've just finished reading David's book as part of my research into how my own books about cancer fit into the lexicon. So many health professionals, even when they write about their own cancer, have almost nothing in their books about their personal experience, their feelings, and ways they coped 'deep down'.
So I truly appreciated David's book. If I'd read it at the time of my own cancer though I might have found it heavy going. When a surgeon tells you 'I can't guarantee you'll come off the operating table alive' before doing emergency surgery in the middle of the night - and you can indeed feel your body dying (because you've been searching fruitlessly for a diagnosis for 18 months) it's one of those defining moments you'd wish to avoid. So I was very tired over the following months, perhaps too tired for such a comprehensive and physically heavy book. That's not a criticism, just a comment.
David said his book was the one he'd like to have had when he was navigating his own cancer. Many people have told me the same about my 2 books. Perhaps I need to explore this with him one day. My books deal with the day to day emotional pathway through the cancer experience, they're what I call 'lyric non-fiction' and are very much self help. I know how grateful I am when people tell me they've been helped by my books, whether it's their own cancer, or someone they love.
So I thank you David. Your book is wonderful, full of feeling, but also adding knowledge and insight into what people need to know.

AMAZING! WONDERFUL! AND SELF ORGANIZATION FACTORS
DR DAVID! Loved to find you!! Your story and the content here in the internet! You are amazing! Your life and all the things ! Wonderful!! I am a Brazilian doctor and I have been studying a lot of interesting things. Although I do not eat animals, I exercise a lot, (Even SURFING DOC!! I started surfing only 5 years ago!!) I am always studying wonderful things! 20 years ago I stopped eating animals and eggs, being compassionate to them. I had learnt they are so sensitive observing the relationship between my mother and her dog ! He was the son she liked the most and they understood each other very well. After I had decided stop eating animals I started studying about the subject- no animals in human blood and I was glad to find out many people already knew this!!Iuhuuuuuuuuuuuu I LOVE TO STUDY ! THIS IS WHAT I more frequently do!
EVEN THOUGH, (valuing learning always) I WAS USING CHEMICAL sugar until reading the subject David Servan Screiber, which occured today!! I am sure you took off a curtain from my view and I am forever grateful to you. I read much more interesting things in interviews with you here in internet and I am enchanted and grateful and learning a lot with you! Your enthusiasm, your victory , your healing life and work inspired me a lot and I already saw this error( chemical sugar and more about perception) that Iwas doing inattentively in a differently way! Thank you doc! You already changed choice in my life! I was receptive to receive and your wisdom was helpuf to me ! Doc David I have been studying many paths for us to know ourselves better and do our holes as A LIGHT TO THE WORLD AND WE NEED TO START TO BE A LIGHT TO OURSELVES ( as Krishnamurti talks) AND NATURALLY SPREADING! To be useful to all humanity that are one and see as being separated and from this starting all confusion! The things that happen to you helped you to connect with your inner teacher! Now you are much more connected , wiser, happier, spreading your useful wisdom , having an enormous good will , serving as a master to humanity that can see the beauty in your knowledge not only the beauty but the practical utility too! We are here to be useful as you know doctor! I LOVED READING the things I am reading about you and your work helping humanity and I am very very very happy finding it TODAY! IMAGINE after reading the book ! I already order it by the phone today and it will arrive tomorrow ! I will order it in English too! I will recommend to people too. DOCTOR what a good surprise to find a space available to write to you!!! Happy to see your availableness man!!I hope you keep this benefit for humanity! You are a very useful creature because w e know the humanity need people angels like you to help their awakening! THANK YOU DOC!!!! I AM A LITTLE SHY TO DISAGREE OF A SENTENCE THAT MY NEW MASTER DAVID commented ( stated!- I WROTE ONE more word here like a synonym because of my more or less English doc, BE COMFORTABLE TO CORRECT ME I LOVE LEARNING ) I READ HERE AMONG THE TREASURE I FOUND IN YOUR WORDS! You stated: There is no alternative to conventional treatment for cancer. DEAR TEACHER I THINK YOU wanted to mean that other methods can treat but as each person have your particular way to answer to each method and as cancer is a serious condition it was better some times to try more than one way to find out the solution. ( Not only the “alternative” and not only the chemical ) I understood It is a way to think that I can understand . But w e are always learning Teacher doctor and I think if I needed choose I would treat myself using other approaches differently from chemicals. BUT I UNDERSTOOD WHAT YOU MEANT AND I THANK GOD YOU TREATED USING CHEMICALS BUT MAYBE MY DEAR DOCTOR IF YOUR INNER FOREVER LEARNER IS AVAILABLE you can learn about fatores de auto organização SELF ORGANIZATION FACTORS. IT IS QUANTICS PHYSICS CREATED BY A STILL ALIVE BRAZILIAN CIENTIST MIRIA DE AMORIM MY TEACHER. She is a doctor that lives in another state different from mine . I am her student!
AS YOU ALREADY KNOW WE DO NOT need, and even there is no time to get to know every path to help humanity but my new master and dear colleague of this very interesting profession David! But IF YOU HAVE EAR to listen go ahead and search about FAO. You can love to discover it. I wrote an article about this ( I USE FAO TO MYSELF AND PRESCRIBE TO PATIENTS) but it is in Portuguese but you can find things in internet in English too and if you are really interested in search about this different medicine ( who knows DOC, you will treat patients using one more resource??) I can translate my article to you but it is very long than it will be interesting to know if you are really interested I learnt about FAO 4 years ago and I already saw amazing things even treating severe diseases. It is really helping humanity. Maybe you do not need to yourself ( OR WHO KNOWS IT IS THE GOOD DROP THAT AN ANGEL IS BRINGING TO YOUU IUHUUU) DOC YOU ALREADY HELPED ME A LOT AND I AM GRATEFUL TO YOU FOREVER! AS grateful action I am telling you about SELF ORGANIZATION FACTORS ( I READ ABOUT YOUR LEARNING SPIRIT… AND SEE THE PEARLS WHO CAN

MY HOMEPAGES WERE NOT RECOGNIZED AS TRUE BUT THEY ARE
Anti-Cancer
I was diagnosed with stage 1 breast cancer at 39 years old and looking back, I was cavalier in thinking it would never come back. Eight years later I learned it had spread to my bone. That was two and half years ago. During the course of treatment, I have changed doctors two times. All three oncologist's has never discussed diet. On my own, in the last two years I have changed my diet but recently I bought your book and realized there's so much more I can do. In some way I feel your book is wasted on the cancer patient. Yes, we are all learning from it, I just cried while I read The Fear Of Suffering. That has been something I have said to friends many times. I'm afraid of suffering. Unfortunately, as humans, we do not think about death until it happens to us. We have a false sense of being safe and then it hits and many times it's too late. In sheer numbers alone we should know that cancer is not more prevalent because we're living longer. And yet, the medical community has very little faith in healing the body through food. I was at a cancer symposium, and I asked a very well known doctor about stress. He answered that a year or so ago a woman's daughter was diagnosed with cancer and this woman was blaming herself for her daughter's disease, because they a very bad fight! I wanted to get up and scream at him, that was not the stress I was referring to. Stress to me is a death, a divorce, difficult children, financial issues, stress that continues over a long period of time, without any hope that it will ease up. Anticancer answered a lot of those questions for me. Thank you. I only wish a doctor would have recommend the book to me 13 years ago.
