Norman Holland

Norman Holland recently retired from the Marston-Milbauer Eminent Scholar's Chair at the University of Florida, where he was also a faculty member of the McKnight Brain Institute. He received his Ph.D. in English literature from Harvard and graduated from the Boston Psychoanalytic Institute. His latest book is Literature and the Brain, available at www.literatureandthebrain.com. His earlier books have ranged widely from purely literary to purely psychological studies. They include such titles as Laughing; The I; The Brain of Robert Frost; and Meeting Movies. His articles have appeared in The Atlantic, The Nation, Critical Inquiry, and Hudson Review. He has served as The Film Critic for WGBH-TV. At Florida, he founded the Institute for Psychological Study of the Arts, the online discussion group PSYART, the online journal PsyArt, and the PsyArt Foundation. He organized and helps manage the International Conference in Literature and Psychology. He has lectured all over the world, and writings of his have been translated into Chinese, Dutch, French, German, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Magyar, Polish, Russian, Spanish, and Turkic.
