Katharine Brooks, Ed.D.

Katharine Brooks, Ed.D. has been providing career services for more than 20 years, specializing in the career needs of college students and alumni in career transition. She has also worked with college students with attention deficit disorder and learning disabilities. She developed the Wise WanderingsTM career coaching system which is explained in her book, You Majored in What? Mapping Your Path from Chaos to Career (Viking Press, 2009).
She is currently the Director of Liberal Arts Career Services for The University of Texas at Austin, and formerly the Director of Career Services for Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Brooks has been teaching career-related courses since 1991, including The Liberal Arts in Business, The Liberal Arts in Management, and The Real World: The Workplace in the Movies.
Brooks provides career coaching training and consulting through "Career Coaching Intensives" she created for the National Association of Colleges & Employers (NACE). She regularly presents at career counseling conferences and frequently consults with university and college career centers. She served on the Educator's Advisory Board for Walt Disney World's College Recruiting Program.
Brooks has written numerous articles for career services professionals and students. Her article "Making the Most of Your Liberal Arts Degree" has appeared for the past four years in NACE's Job Choices for Business and Liberal Arts Students. Her expertise in career issues has been recognized in publications including The Chicago Tribune, The Philadelphia Inquirer, Cosmopolitan, the Associated Press, and CNN/Fortune.
Brooks has a doctorate in Educational Psychology with an emphasis in Counseling Psychology, and a master's degree in Rehabilitation Counseling from West Virginia University. Her bachelor's degree is in Sociology and Anthropology from Gettysburg College.
