Jonathan Kaplan, Ph.D.

Jonathan Kaplan, Ph.D., graduated from Tufts University with a B.A. in Asian Studies and later earned his doctoral degree in Clinical Psychology from UCLA. At present, he works as the Director for the Stress Management Program at the American Institute for Cognitive Therapy. He also created an organization, Urban Mindfulness, devoted to the cultivation and practice of mindfulness as a remedy to the stressors associated with city living. As an adjunct professor at the New School for Social Research, he has taught graduate courses in evidence-based treatments and mindfulness in cognitive therapy. Over the years, Dr. Kaplan has developed an appreciation for the inter-relationship between the mind and body, while underlies his expertise in stress management and cross-cultural aspects of healing. Across the U.S., he has conducted numerous, mind-body workshops on meditation, stress management, relaxation, and mindfulness. In 2007, he won an award from the American Psychological Association in recognition of his achievements in this area. Clinically, he specializes in treating depression, anxiety, anger, and developmental issues of young adulthood. He is also proficient in Japanese and spent two years living, working, and traveling in Asia. Having been part of the Asian American Psychological Association for the past 15 years, he was elected to serve as Secretary/Historian for 2008 - 2010. He is the first non-Asian American to be part of the Executive Committee in the history of the organization.
