John R. Buri, Ph.D.

John Buri is Professor of Psychology at the University of St. Thomas in Saint Paul, Minnesota. He earned his M.A. and Ph.D. in psychology from Loyola University in Chicago. He is the author of the book How To Love Your Wife. He also has published over 75 articles, questionnaires, and professional papers. John has spent 20+ years working with couples and he has extensive experience doing marriage prep and marriage enrichment with groups in the upper Midwest. John has also spent the past 25 years teaching a university course on the Psychology of Marriage and the Family, and he is the director of a research program into those factors that contribute to successful relationships and happy marriages. He is affectionately called "The Love Doctor" by his students and he has been dubbed "The Marriage Doctor" by local media in the Twin Cities. John has received numerous awards, including: Minnesota Psychological Association Psychology Professor of the Year, CASE Special Recognition National Professor of the Year, Distinguished Educator of the Year, UST Professor of the Year, and UST Teacher of the Year.
