Joanne Wood

Joanne Wood is a professor of psychology at the University of Waterloo. Her publications have concerned emotion regulation, how self-esteem influences interpersonal interactions and close relationships, mechanisms underlying the maintenance of self-esteem, coping with illness, and social comparison. Wood completed her Ph.D. in clinical psychology at UCLA in 1984. She was a faculty member at Stony Brook University for five years, and in 1989 moved to the University of Waterloo in Ontario, where she is now a social/personality psychologist. She has served as an Associate Editor of Personality and Social Psychology Bulletin, and on the editorial boards for several social/personality psychology journals. She has received research grants from the National Institute of Mental Health in the U.S. and from the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council in Canada. She lives in Waterloo with her husband, two wonderful daughters, and her dog Holly.
