Do Legislators Not Understand the Impacts of the Budget on Children with Autism?... Or Do They Simply Lack Compassion? Read More

Gov, DPW, BAS
So this article led me to call and ask questions of the governor's office which were deflected to the DPW which were then passed on to the autism services department. If there is anything that being a parent of a special needs child has taught me about politics is this. A whole bunch of people get paid to do a lot of nothing. There are multiple different ways that our children could receive services and that costs could be cut. However, no one wants to hear about that. They would rather pass along the increases to people who are most unable to either fight back or pay for the increases.
Hmmm
That is great you called. I find it very irritating that they passed you onto Autism Services! The folks in the Autism Services Dept., in my opinion, all work very, very hard to help our kids and adults with autism. But Autism Services had no vote on Act 22..they are not elected officials.
The Governor and the legislators are directly responsible for the passing of Act 22. Only our legislators can make an impact at this time as to the process, transparency, public hearings, etc. Now that Act 22 is passed, the Secretary of DPW, Gary Alexander, has the power to change welfare code...with NO legislature oversight or approval. :-(
