Animal research stopped and animals surrendered at North Carolina laboratory

This has been a bad week for many animals. We've learned that in July (2010) in Romulus, New York, 93 dogs were gassed to death with carbon monoxide to "depopulate" the man's "kennel" and cruelty against dogs, cats and rabbits documented on a video at a laboratory in North Carolina has resulted in the termination of research and the surrender of the animals who were kept in the facility.

According to this article, "U.S. Department of Agriculture spokesman Dave Sacks said officials are trying to find new homes for more than 200 animals that were at Professional Laboratory and Research Services Inc. He said it was the company's decision to give them up and stop research. The USDA inspected the site this week and has started a formal investigation." The company president said she was "disgusted and appalled by the video"

Let's hope that appropriate sanctions are taken. As Gretchen Wyler, founder of The Ark Trust used to say, "Cruelty can't stand the spotlight."
