Shouldn't the headline be, "Self Help and Sex Therapy Have Equal Outcomes"?
I don't think the study you cited was of people who had tried self-help books for sex therapy, and failed. It was of purely cooperative copies. It had the same outcome as reading self-help books. So what's the advantage?

Sex therapy usually helps
Thanks for the clear and concise description of sex therapy and the types of issues that can be addressed. Just an aside, many of us integrate couples counseling and sex therapy instead of extricating the sexual issues to a separate forum. Relationship dynamics and sexual issues are usually heavily intertwined, so I like having all of it "in the room" at the same time.

Thank you for addressing this important topic. I think there are a lot of misconceptions about sex therapy... But taking the time to work for a healthy sexual relationship is definitely worth the investment. Great post.
