U.S. Drug Overdose Deaths Are Increasing

Prescription drug overdose deaths are increasing quickly in the U.S. The question is, what can we do about it?! Read More

solving a problem

I just pray that this country would consider alternatives for helping the problem with drugs instead of declaring " WAR" on drugs. Take England, for instance. They reduced their crime rate by 80% by legalizing cocaine through prescription only.Totally with a program for eventually quitting.People need to realize and understand that drug addiction is a deep "illness" along with serious emotional issues.People are trying to "fix" their problems or coping by using drugs.Alot of people simply don't have alternatives or don't know any better. Then you have people like myself who have a " chemical imbalance" along with alot of very PAINFUL issues that are simply just unbearable to try to handle completely "sober."It is human nature to seek relief from pain. Take a person with cancer who is obviously in alot of pain, but you can"see" it. My pain is just as "nasty", but because you can't "see it", you don't acknowledge it. That is the problem and until people get better educated about histories of a violent childhood and the problems that stem from that, our drug problem will get worse!

Drug panic vs. drug od solutions

Doctors know people have pain but if they can't see it the powers that be overseeing the Doctor complain about them prescribing 'too much'.
I have terrible pain from nerve damage. should I learn to live with it? I can't, i'd rather die! Can you see my pain? Only with tests many are loathe to perform. One Physiatrist gave me a painful invasive series of procedures while all the while I knew nerve pain and was asking for an MRI. Finally my primary gave me one. Guess what? herniated disc at my fusion site impinging on a nerve.
What upsets me is that all the hysteria over pain medication is preventing Doctors from giving it to people who really need it forcing them to find other ways to either get pain medication, suffering, or worse.
One pain specialist even told me to do Yoga! That would have physically made the situation worse.
I know what i'm talking about after having multiple neck surgeries. I was injured working for 18 years as an RN on a large trauma unit.
I have a psychiatrist and a therapist. They can help me with my head but not the pain.
