In my travels to nursing homes I have come to know many memorable people, perhaps none more so than Sean Hanrahan, a poor Irish kid from Southie in Boston.
When I met him, he was shortly to become one of the few humans alive to have had the personal enjoyment of the last two Red Sox baseball championships--1918 and 2004. Read More

Here's to you, Mr. Hanrahan
Thank you for sharing this story. What I wouldn't give to sit next to Mr. Hanrahan, with a beer, and pick his brain: How did you endure the curse? What did you think of the Black Sox scandal? What was it like living through the Yankee dynasty years? When did you forgive Buckner? How would you explain the steroids era to kids?
I was born a Mets fan, born in '62, and while I commiserate every year, at least I have already seen them win two World Series. I hope to be a great baseball story-teller one day...to live long enough and to have experienced enough to be my generation's Mr. Hanrahan. I am sure I would learn much more than just baseball stories from him. And that's what makes guys like him special to guys like me. Here's to you, Mr. H.
