The existential experience of addiction has been captured best by the songs of Smokey Robinson, Leonard Cohen, and Lucinda Williams—an artist America should build a monument to next to the Lincoln Memorial. Read More

Codependence...
...has given us some of the best love songs! hahaha Great article, thanks!
Like love is not only the cheapest of addiction, but also the most ruinous.
Oh curmudgeon you, you had to ruin the day named after a martyred priest in Rome didn’t you :-)
I find Coldplay –Fix you lyrics - a little creepy.
When you try your best, but you don't succeed
When you get what you want, but not what you need
When you feel so tired, but you can't sleep
Stuck in reverse
And the tears come streaming down your face
When you lose something you can't replace
When you love someone, but it goes to waste
Could it be worse?
Lights will guide you home
And ignite your bones
And I will try to fix you
Kate Perry E.T was quite freaky too:
They say be afraid
You’re not like the others
Futuristic lover
Different DNA
They don’t understand you
You’re from a whole ‘nother world
A different dimension
You open my eyes
And I’m ready to go
Lead me into the light
Kiss me, ki-ki-kiss me
Infect me with your loving
Fill me with your poison
Take me, ta-ta-take me
Wanna be your victim
Ready for abduction
And there is Cowboy Casanova , a perfect antidote to a bad boy. Then the video is set in an whorehouse, it kind of kills the empowerment message.
“You better take it from me, that boy is like a disease
You’re running, you’re trying, you’re trying to hide
And you’re wondering why you can’t get free
He’s like a curse, he’s like a drug”

There's a book in this,
DOREMI, and you're the one to write it.
As to being the cheapest addiction, didn't John Barrymore say something like, "Divorce is so damn expensive -- but it's worth it!"
I was not even thinking about a divorce lawyer’s billing sheet.
I was thinking that bad love will ruin your looks, sense of self and sanity.
With insane love you are the frog who is happily standing in slowly heated water to end up as toast.
Missed me
I do not have the ability to discern lyrics in songs. If the tune is "catchy" I will hum it for a while (usually off key). Could this be a blessing?
The only current lyrics that I know are:
"Red Solo cup
I fill you up
Let's have a party"
But then, that is a whole different issue from my addiction to love. My spouse and I have been together now for over 40 years.
I (and Lucinda Williams) forbid you
to read any more of my blogs.
And a happy Valentine's Day to you also Dr. Peele
I'm not so sure about Lucinda, she kinda scares me.
LOL
LOL
Love Addiction
Because there are so many people who are in love and are doing a lot of crazy things for love, many different songs or poems are created about love addiction. Some are funny but there are a lot which are more serious and creepy!
"You're My Drug"
This song by the Dukes of Stratosphere, which was an XTC side project captures this pretty weYou take me to heaven from deeper than hell ever dug
And you fly me higher than a trip on a magical rug
Confessions unravel
You bang with your gavel
And here I stand guilty
In a court where you are the judge
You're the drug
You've got to come on round and pick me up
You've my drug
And I don't ever know if I can give you up
Well you bring me colour where once I had just black and white
Now I have rainbows appearing round here in the night
Our true loving is growing
And passion is flowing
Well I don't need any cigarettes or beer from a jug
You're my drug
You've got to come on round and pick me up
You're my drug
Well you can slow me down or quick me up
You're my drug
Well you can spill me down and lick me up
You're my drug
And I don't ever know if I can give you up
