No Pill Can Cure Addiction

Although the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA) is hell-bent on curing addiction with a pill, their very logic indicates this can never be done. Read More

i agree

I agree. I believe that every addiction is caused and supported by different reasons and ritual practices. These can come in all forms, shapes, and sizes for different people. So I believe that addiction cannot be dealt with like a common aliment, that has the same symptoms on all people. No drug could be able to dull all of the different variables that are involved with addiction. Every person is different therefore their terms of addiction are different.

Wouldn't it be nice?

The quest for a new medicine to take care of everything seems to be as elusive as the end of the rainbow. But the nature of addiction and of we humans is to keep hoping...

Thanks for dashing our hopes. And reminding us of the bedrock of how healing actually does happen.

I strongly agree with this

I strongly agree with this article’s approach to addiction treatment. Any type of addiction is an extremely complex compilation of an addict’s cognitive processes, emotions, and obsessive-compulsive behavior, in addition to various aspects of neurobiological dependence (whether it is an addition to drugs, smoking, or food--in the case of obesity). For this reason I believe that all addiction-based treatments should not only pertain to the physiological aspect of the addiction but also the psychological dimension of the urge. Although prescription pills allow for the neurobiological relief of the addiction, it is extremely important to continue treatment though cognitive behavioral therapy. Through the combination of psychological and neurological rehabilitation, addiction-based disorders are able to be effectively treated and eventually cured.

Great Article

Great information.
It is so common today to see addiction treated with more and more drugs. This is not the solution and will not cure the problem.

It would be nice if addiction

It would be nice if addiction can easily be threatened with some pills because you don't have to undergo rehab treatment that takes months. But unfortunately we have to wait for that pills to be formulate.

thanks for the info :)
