Spotting Dementia
Doctors may soon be able to diagnose Alzheimer’s disease,
which is usually only definitively identified through an autopsy.
Researchers at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine in Minnesota have used
molecular brain imaging to spot the beginnings of the disease in
mice.
A Trauma Cure?
An appointment with a therapist may be the best treatment for
depressed adults who’ve experienced childhood trauma, according to
an Emory University study. Antidepressant drugs aren’t as effective
as psychotherapy when the depression is triggered by an early life
experience.
Weary Moms
Nearly half of mothers going back to work say their husbands and
kids expect them to do the same amount of housework as they did when they
cared for the children at home, according to the book Going Back to Work,
by Mary Quigley and Loretta Kaufman. Just over 20 percent say their
family pitches in more often. Aside from household chores, the biggest
hurdle women face after returning to the office is a lack of time for
themselves, the authors found.
