Dissatisfied customers According to a survey of Canadian women with breast implants, some 40 percent have had them removed because of complications. The British Columbia Center for Disease Control study found that half the surveyed women with implants needed follow-up surgery after the initial operation. More than a quarter required two or more additional surgeries.

Benign diagnosis A diagnosis of mild cognitive impairment is not always a harbinger of Alzheimer’s disease, according to a small study by McGill University in Montreal. More than a quarter of patients studied had little memory loss after initial testing. The subjects were followed for 12 years on average.

Road warriors The most accident-prone drivers include students, doctors, lawyers, architects and real estate agents, according to a study of 1 million U.S. drivers by Quality Planning Corporation, an insurance consultancy. Those least likely to get into accidents included homemakers, politicians, firemen, farmers and, thankfully, airline pilots.

Multivitamin benefit Adults who took a multivitamin for more than 10 years before joining an American Cancer Society study were about 30 percent less likely to develop colon cancer. The advantage may come from folate and vitamin D, which are both linked to a decreased risk of colon cancer. But researchers stress that exercise and diet may also confer protective effects.
