A NATION SEEKS COMFORT IN CALORIES
Consumer confidence may be down, but one revealing purchase remains strong:Junk food sales skyrocketed after September 11, as Americans bought 12.4 percent more cookies and chips than they did in September 2000, according to a Nielsen poll. This is not surprising, considering that stress is the primary predictor of diet failure, according to the American Dietetic Association. The ADA recommends that people combat the stress-induced urge to snack with physical activity, or even a brief change of scenery.
