A specialist in the history of psychiatry, Shepard offers nearly 400 pages of details about every aspect of military psychiatry, from the shell shock of World War I to the post-traumatic stress disorder of the Gulf War. Although it may be read by both layman and scholar, Shepard's encyclopedic approach will appeal only to those dedicated to the subject.
