What's up docs?
Patients do resent doctors, and frequently for good reason.....We have amongus our crooks alcoholics, sexual molesters, and drug abusers, who, in the process of harming themselves, cause their innocent patients to suffer as well. In addition, we have any numbers of practitioners who are truly remote and who just don't care. It is a difficult thing to accept the presence of all these physicians in a profession that is known for its problem-solving qualities, when they themselves turn out to be the biggest problem.
Peter Berczeller, M.D., in Doctors and Patients (MacMillan, 1994)
